I am the founder of CityMood, Ethan Lam. I am currently in 12th grade. This is CityMood, one of the best of the few websites I have made so far, this website is dedicated to the communities of popular cities. Officials and people running these cities can use this website to see the "mood" of their cities and what's going on right now. It could be a sports game thread or a major controversial topic. Even normal civilians and people living in the city can use CityMood.
Originally I created a website called mayors5.org when I was a 8th grader after my parents' business was burglarized twice in the same night and the city officials did not know until much later. So I created that website to pull out the hottest topics discussed in a city. Later on I got the idea that we can use natural language processing (NLP) and scan through all those postings to gauge the feeling of the people in the city, and thus assign a "mood score". And CityMood.org was born. The idea is to, perhaps, treat a city like a person, from a more holistic point of view. It summaries a city's "state of mind" in a single number.
CityMood works by social intelligence, social intelligence is information found from different various apps and website of media ( such as Reddit, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram etc. ).
We find social intelligence by using a python web scraper on various website that contain info and topics on different cities and then compile them into the top 5 topics. This web scraper is very useful since its very hard to find info manually. After finding all info we post the top 5 topics weekly and send emails to the inbox of different cities containing the top 5 hot topics going on right now.
